Treat yourself: The Penthouse, Santa Monica, CA

One of the most enjoyable things in life is going out to eat and experiencing a great meal.  It’s can be so much nicer to enjoy a fun social event at a restaurant among good company, than to have to cook and clean up at home.

I recently visited The Penthouse in Santa Monica, California and was amazed. Living in Los Angeles, you often hear about restaurants that you “have to try” and this is definitely one of them. When you arrive at The Huntley hotel, you are escorted to a private elevator that takes you to the top floor, 18 stories up and overlooking Santa Monica Beach and Los Angeles.

The restaurant takes dinner reservations or you can hope to find a spot and have drinks and small plates in their lounge area as we did.  My friend and I had decided to go last minute, but since there isn’t a bad seat in the house, we were very happy with our experience.

The decor is absolutely breath taking, with everything covered in white.  Some tables look like VIP cabana’s and some are fireside with 360º views of the Pacific ocean from Malibu to the Hollywood skyline.  It just may be the best view in L.A. The restaurant is known for its contemporary cuisine and creative cocktails.. We shared a cheese plate and I had a cucumber martini and both were absolutely delicious.

The restaurant’s vibe and service were wonderful and although it is not inexpensive, you absolutely get what you pay for.  The food, drinks and view are all well worth it.  I can’t wait to go back for a special occasion dinner.  If you want to enjoy a fancy evening with ambiance, drinks and appetizers, I say treat yourself.  tle7_the_penthouse_cabanas_3317
